Here comes the fun!! The busiest and, possibly, the most enjoyable time of the year in the Friends organization is upon us. We kick it off with our November Luncheon, featuring three annual events: our Silent Auction, our Food Drive, and our club's business meeting, where we elect next year's Board of Directors. Whew! With a packed agenda like that, we need to begin early and so we shall. As previously noted, the date is early and the time is early. The Community Center will be closed for Veteran's day on November 11th, when we would normally hold our monthly luncheon, so it will take place on November 4th instead. And the doors will open earlier, at 10 AM, to allow the members more time to spot and bid on those must-have items.
Another notable change is that, this year, rather than loading up Chair, Linda Struve's car, there will be a truck from our local Extended Hands Food Bank in the parking lot to collect your donations ofpantry items as you enter the Community Center for the luncheon. See the Monthly Luncheons page for further details.
Added to all of the above will be the business of electing next year's Board of Directors, and you can see that we will have a very full agenda! The new slate of candidates was published in the October Bulletin but, in case you didn't see that, here they are again:
- 1st Vice President: Vivian Lopez
- Secretary: Sandy Clark
- Treasurer: Sally Gibbs
Given all of this, the November luncheon is typically the most well-attended event of the year so be sure to get your payment of $20 to our Reservations Chair, Ione Bushman, one week earlier this month; by 5 PM on October 28th.
See you at the Fountain Hills Community Center onNovember 4th!
Discounted Dues: New members may join Friends in the Hills from now until the end of the year for a discounted rate. Check with President, Heidi Pearson, or Membership Coordinator, Judy Nelson, for details.
If you have been considering joining us, now would be a great time!

Please mark your calendars and remember to get your luncheon checks in to Ione Bushman one week earlier for November. Trauma Teddies for Rural MetroEvery year, at the December Luncheon, FITH members generously donate hundreds of huggable teddy bears to the Rural Metro Fire Department's Trauma Teddy program. These bears are given out by the firefighters to comfort the children encountered on their emergency calls. It's not too early to start thinking about this and keeping your eyes open for a good buy on that perfect bear for a traumatized child. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated.Tempting as it may be, NO GIANT BEARS, please. Just something huggable for a child to easily carry with them for a sense of comfort and security.Contact Chair, Barb Gibson, with any questions.
